James 4: 1-3
Submit Yourselves to God
“What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures”.
We know that to lust after something can lead us away from God and we know that we must be constantly on our guard.
In Britain we can be very prudish when talking about sexuality but I think these are conversations that we need to have especially in the context of our relationship with the Divine, with God.
Lust occurs when we have an overpowering desire for something, it is when something becomes all consuming that we are unable to stop ourselves from acting upon it.
When we lust after something our minds are naturally drawn to sex but lust encompasses much more than just the physical.
There is lust of the flesh but equally there is is lust of possessions. If we give in to lust therefore being unable to control our desires we are lead from the divine.
Lust then becomes an addiction and we all know how bad addictions can be for us. Therefore we must be constantly on guard against lustful desires because lust will lead us into a spiritual wilderness..
