God is in control

Equality and Diversity are important as to recognise that we are all different yet we are all the same. We all laugh , we all bleed and one day we will all share that same earthly fate. Inclusion should never come at the time expense of someone else’s exclusion.

Yet in these times were everyone’s voice should be respected and everybody’s voice should be heard even if you disagree with it, we find ourselves in a situation when conversations are shut down because we don’t like what the person has to say. This I’m afraid to tell you will not lead to a more inclusive society it will lead to a more excluded society.

The problem I think with the concept of inclusivity is that it leads by it’s very nature to conformity. Even in Christianity we don’t expect everybody to live by the same doctrine. the doctrine of my church could be different to the doctrine of your church, however on the most important issues we are at one mind but we still reserve the right to articulate different concepts of belief.

In in my Christian journey I believe as someone who is of the wesleyan/holiness tradition in the sanctification by the Holy Spirit and that it could happen all at once, in other Christian traditions there may be a different concept of sanctification by the Holy Spirit and when it occurs. In Calvinism there is a belief in predestination, now I don’t hold to that because if God knows what I’m going to do even before I do it and he has chosen those who will ascend to the Kingdom where is the message of hope for fallen man.

I believe that God has given us free will, free will is the ability to choose either to do right ought to do wrong and depending on our choices we will either be eternally rewarded or eternally punished.

Christ on the cross became the lamb that went to the slaughter. He didn’t have to, he chose to because it was part of his father’s plan. What was it he said when the hour had come.

Luke 22: 42

“Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me; yet, not my will but yours be done.”

Picture it , Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane probably beset with all kinds of fears, he knew he was going to be betrayed, in that moment his human nature was there for all to see, it was a moment of human weakness in which he showed fear. It was almost as if it was to much for him to cope with. He lifts his eyes to God and says father if you are willing remove this cup from me.

The scene is vividly captured in the musical Jesus Christ superstar and the words are very emotive and always make me feel very emotional..

I only want to say
If there is a way
Take this cup away from me
For I don’t want to taste its poison
Feel it burn me
I have changed
I’m not as sure, as when we started
Then, I was inspired
Now, I’m sad and tired
Listen, surely I’ve exceeded expectations
Tried for three years, seems like thirty
Could you ask as much from any other man?
But if I die
See the saga through and do the things you ask of me,
Let them hate me, hit me, hurt me, nail me to their tree
I’d want to know, I’d want to know, my God
I’d want to know, I’d want to know, my God
Want to see, I’d want to see, my God
Want to see, I’d want to see, my God
Why I should die
Would I be more noticed than I ever was before?
Would the things I’ve said and done matter any more?
I’d have…

And then finally was that moment of total surrender. Not my will but yours be done.

And may God bless you this evening
