On this Sunday morning a memory popped up on Facebook and I thought I would share it with you I wrote this last year and I hope it is of some value today because I think it is badly needed.
My dear brothers and sisters in Christ. I’ve been listeningt to the sermon given by Bishop Michael, Bishop in charge of the Episcopalian Church of the United States at the wedding of His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales and Meghan Markle or should I say now their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
I have never heard such a more powerful sermon on Love. The Power of Love which can conquer all things. The Power of Love which can conquer fear, the Power of Love which can conquer hate, the Power of Love which can conquer division, the Power of Love which can bring people together when they’ve been apart.
An inspiring sermon which was so needed and to deliver it in such a place on Saturday where the whole world would be watching and listening. There is no doubt in my mind that God was behind it and we saw in that sermon the redemptive power of love so manifest in the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
He didn’t have to go to the cross he went willingly because he so loved us that he gave his life for us. Some of you won’t get but I get it, some of you won’t get it because you don’t believe it, some of you don’t get it because all you do is shout into the wind and you become angry because no one is listening.
Well I tell you my brothers and sisters this truth, the wind doesn’t listen. All that will happen if we shout into the wind is that all our shouts and screams will just drift away on the morning air and we will be left with a soreness of the throat.
But if we bring it to God and lay it at his alter he will hear all our prayers. God hears the prayers of the afflicted and he will answer them not in our time but in his time so we cannot put God to the test.
I say to those who have the responsibility of governance of our great nation let the God given words of Bishop Michael sink into your hearts and transform the way you do politics in this Country and then the world. Politics based not on failed human ideologies but Politics based on the purest thing of all, politics based on love.
Capatilism and Socialism in the end they conquer nothing but love sets the captive heart free. If we love the world we live in, love the nation we live in, love the people around us , the stranger, our neighbours and lastly ourselves think on how we can change the world in a way that human ideologies will never change the world, so today go out and love someone and you will be rewarded a thousand times over.
The power of the holy spirit working in that place today.
If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
And may God bestow manifold blessings upon you this day and every day.
